其他5位评委对获奖作品写的都是推荐语,而我对《爱的历史》写的却是说明——这并不意味着我对此书不认同。事实上我觉得,此书很能体现西方社会学家们对人类种种现象执着的思考与叩问精神。而我对此是心怀敬意的。但它的确不是我所希望的那类关于“爱”的历史之书。我所希望的是关于“仁者爱人”及有“博爱”观的史性书籍。而《爱的历史》却主要论述的是两性之爱问题。它强调爱绝对是有条件的——这也基本上是古往今来两性之爱的真相。一本书告诉我们一种基本上是那样的真相,便有值得一阅
The other five judges wrote testimonials for the winning entries, and my description of “the history of love” was written - this does not mean that I do not agree with the book. In fact, I think this book can reflect the thinking and the inquiry spirit of Western sociologists who are persistent in the phenomena of mankind. And I respect it. But it is certainly not the kind of book I hope for “love”. What I hope for is a historic book on the concept of benevolence and love and the concept of fraternity. The “history of love” mainly discusses the issue of love between men and women. It emphasizes that love is absolutely conditional - and this is basically the truth about the love of both sexes throughout the ages. A book that tells us a fundamentally the truth is worth reading
