Many people on rail and public transport are industry changers who use plastics. Their reaction is very positive, especially for their low wear rates, durability and economy. Most of the bogie wear parts manufactured by Conrail Rail are made of thermoplastic engineering plastic. The railroad company recently started experimenting with plastic nasal suspensions and is considering trial plastic bushing. “The main reason we use these plastic parts is because they have a low rate of wear, or no wear, and they last longer and are more economical than steel,” said Conrail Rail’s deputy manager for maintenance.
