Radiation beneficiation is a beneficiation process based on the difference of the radiation emitted by a mineral or the absorption of (foreign) radiation. Radiation beneficiation can be divided into two broad categories (Table 1): emission-based radiation beneficiation based on the determination of the intensity of radiation emitted by the mineral and absorptive radiation beneficiation based on the measurement of the extent to which the useful mineral absorbs incident radiation. Radical beneficiation methods based on the differences in radioactivity and in terms of fluorescence and reflectivity of mineral components have now gained industrial applications.
