In order to analyze the variation of the genus, the nucleotide sequence polymorphisms of several chloroplast genes rbcL and trnK of Atractylodes lancea, A. japonica and A. ovata were discussed. Using the whole DNA prepared from fresh leaves as a template, the rbcL and trnK regions were amplified by PCR, and the amplified products were directly sequenced by the dideoxy chain termination method.
