Vascular calcification is a pathological process during which deposits of calcium mineral in vessel walls are progressively formed,leading to tissue stiffening,plaque rupture,and heart failure[1].The mortal-ity rate is 3％ among non-calcification individuals,while it reaches 28％ in patients with high levels of vascular calcification[2].Despite rapid advances in the understanding of this health problem,medi-cal treatments targeting vascular calcification are still lacking.There are no approved therapeutic drugs available except the costly inva-sive transcatheter procedures and surgeries that do not fully address the wide spectrum of these conditions[3].Unfortunately,current studies of vascular calcification are far behind the actual needs,prob-ably because vascular calcification,especially microcalcification,is difficult to diagnose and treat.
