The Six Chapters Of A Floating Life was written by SHEN FU of the Qing Dynasty.With its unique perspectives,this work won the favor of many key figures of Chinese literature,and occupies a very important position in the Qing Dynasty’s literature.Dr.LIN Yutang appreciated this book very much and translated it into English.His version of translation,rich of Chinese cultural characteristics and full with faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance,is called the model version.This article tries to analyze Dr.LIN’s Art of Translation,starting from some specific examples and combining personal experience of translation,in order to learn from Dr.LIN’s capability of seizing the essence of the original works,his excellence in both Chinese and English literature,his proper handling of cultural symbols,as well as his perfect translation of classical Chinese works.
