通讯《今日“两地书”》在1986年11月5日人民日报发表后,编辑部收到读者大量来信来电,赞扬中央军委主席邓小平同志领导的“祖国军队了不起”,赞扬前方将士和军委办公厅机关干部张立同志那种“祖国万事连我心,献计献策为己任”的高尚精神。同时,读者也称赞通讯的写作,要我们介绍经验。我们觉得不好办。但是,想到稿件见报后,认真总结一下经验,还是应该的,这对改进今后报道,提高我们写作水平是有好处的。所以,我们对《今日“两地书”》的报道过程,作了一番回顾。一去年7月,罗同松曾赴老山前线采访。回京后,正在酝酿写一篇通讯。9月,部队新闻干事马文科从云南前线来到北京,给人民日报送来了一大本材料,是有关前线将士与军委办公厅机关干部张立同志讨论
