Oscar Gasard, the hero of the German exile in Malamud’s short story, is a German Jew in exile in the United States who just escaped the claws of the Nazis. This article analyzes the suffering suffered after Oscar immigrating to the United States from four different perspectives. These four perspectives include the loss of Osama’s economic security, the loss of mother tongue, the loss of identity, the loss of hope for love and humanity, Dreams of hope, the pain of hope for the reunification of the family, in order to make the reader recall the evil deeds of the Nazis and inspire the readers to think deeply. In addition, the pain of Oscar has fully demonstrated the impact of the Nazis’ atrocities and the Nazi genocide on the life and spirit of the Jewish people.
