衡阳湘剧,是湖南省地方大戏剧种,它是自明初至嘉靖年间,由引进的昆腔和弋阳腔,融合了本地民间音乐,吸取了当地群众语言和生活习惯,发展成以昆腔为主,高腔、弹腔及杂曲小调兼容的多种声腔剧种,流行于湘南东部十七个县市及毗邻湘南的赣南西部地区,还有邻近湘南入粤要道的广东坪石、岐门、乐昌、桂头、犁市、韶关等地。
