Nelson Mandela usually gets up at 3.30 a.m. in Victor Worcester prison on the outskirts of Cape Town. First, he does two hours of physical exercise such as morning exercises, cycling, weight lifting, doing push-ups, prolonged running and skipping. Then go to breakfast and shower, sit down and read the day’s newspaper and read The Times, the weekly, Newsweek; he also has a pocket-sized FM radio to listen to the domestic news, mainly to listen to the newscast of “South African Radio.” Mandela often interrupted talks to listen to the news even when “privileged” guests were visiting. When there is no visitor, he listens to every broadcast. But could not receive any news from foreign radio stations.
