今年8月9日,布什总统签署了由参、众两院通过的旨在打造美国科研与教育竞争力的2272号法案,即《创造机会:有效提升科技、教育的促进法案》。该法案的签署,不仅显示了美国未来在上述领域继续保持优势的决心,也是美国国会在强化科学、技术、工程及数学的基础研究与教育方面所达成的一致共识,更是美国各界、尤其是科技界和国会多年努力的结果。
On August 9 this year, President Bush signed Bill No. 2272, passed by the Senate and the House of Commons, aimed at building the competitiveness of the United States in scientific research and education, namely, “Creating Opportunities: Enhancing the Promotion of Science, Technology and Education Bill.” The signing of this bill not only shows the U.S. determination in the future to maintain its superiority in these fields but also is the consensus reached by the U.S. Congress in strengthening fundamental research and education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is also a consensus reached by all walks of life in the United States, The result of years of hard work by the scientific community and the parliament.
