Objective To understand the status quo of heavy metal pollution in seafood regularly consumed by Hangzhou residents. Methods The content of five kinds of heavy metals (cadmium, chromium, lead, total mercury and inorganic arsenic) in 14 kinds of fresh seafood and 6 kinds of processed seafood were detected, and single factor pollution index (Pi) and metal pollution index (XMPI ) Edible safety analysis of the above 20 seafood products. Results The 20 kinds of seafood were mainly polluted by lead and cadmium. The single factor pollution index of total mercury was within the normal background value (Pi <0.2). The most polluted seaweed was, except the total mercury, the other four kinds of heavy metals were Serious pollution. The overall metal pollution index (XMPI) of processed seafood is higher than that of fresh seafood. Conclusions The risk of cadmium and lead in selling seafood in Hangzhou should be given sufficient attention. Deep research should be conducted on the pollution control of heavily contaminated seafood and the necessary supervision should be strengthened.
