这是一个终身学习的时代,任何人都不可能在学习方面一劳永逸,止步于已有的知识和技能。随着全球经济社会的不断发展,无论是在发达国家还是在发展中国家,越来越多的民众日益渴望接受更加灵活、便捷、高质量的教育。因此,作为一所远程教育机构、一所开放大学,更需要敏锐地把握住这种需求,以较低的成本,为学习者提供优质的服务,从而为国家的人力资源能力建设服务。与中国一样,马来西亚也是一个发展中国家,那么他们在远程教育方面的实践进展如何?本期我们有幸采访到了马来西亚宏愿开放大学的校长邓立真(Gajaraj Dhanarajan)教授,邓立真教授在远程教育领域从业30多年,最初他曾在马来西亚理科大学参与开设远程教育服务,后又参与创建了香港公开大学,并先后担任学术副校长、校长,之后他又担任了英联邦学习共同体(Commonwealth of Learning,简称COL)的总裁兼CEO。2004年从COL退休之后,七十多岁高龄的他又扛起马来西亚宏愿开放大学(Wawasan Open University,简称WOU)的大旗,成为这所新创立的开放大学的掌门人,他带领着他的团队正在不断努力,旨在让更多的马来西亚民众在工作不受影响的同时获得智力、学术、技能方面的发展。从他的从业背景可以看出,邓立真教授不仅具有马来西亚本土的经验,还目睹和经历了整个世界远程教育的快速发展。希望广大读者能与我们一道倾听这位多年来沉浸于远程教育领域的领导者、研究者、实践者的心声。
This is an age of lifelong learning, and no one can stop once and for all in learning and stop at existing knowledge and skills. With the continuous development of the global economy and society, more and more people are increasingly eager to receive more flexible, convenient and high-quality education in both developed and developing countries. Therefore, as a distance education institution, an open university needs to seize the demand more acutely and provide the excellent service to the learners at a lower cost, so as to serve the national capacity building of human resources. Like China, Malaysia is also a developing country. So how are their progress in distance education? In this issue, we have the honor to interview Professor Gajaraj Dhanarajan, the president of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, who has been in the field of distance education for more than 30 years He started his career as a distance education service at the Malaysian University of Science and Technology and later joined the Open University of Hong Kong as Academic Vice-Chancellor and Headmaster. He later served as Commonwealth of Learning (COL) President and CEO. After retiring from COL in 2004, he was again in his 70s carrying the banner of Wawasan Open University (WU) and became the head of the newly-opened Open University. He led him Team is working hard to bring more Malaysians to intellectual, academic and technical advancement while working unabated. It can be seen from his background that Professor Deng Lijian not only has the experience of his own country, but also witnessed and experienced the rapid development of distance education in the entire world.
