转基因抗虫棉品系“310”在棉铃发育过程中,表现了较强的“源”生理优势。但在棉铃发育中、后期,营养物质向纤维输送速度降低,部分营养物质被束缚在棉铃对位叶和铃壳中,抗虫棉310单铃铃壳重高于常规棉“泗棉3号”,1997年和1998年310单铃铃壳干重最大值分别为169 g 和145 g,泗棉3号则分别为142 g 和143 g。抗虫棉310单铃纤维干重低于常规棉泗棉3号,310两年分别为210 g 和159 g,泗棉3号则分别为223 g 和168 g。转基因抗虫棉310光合产物积累多,但运转速度慢是其铃重减轻的重要生理基础。
