李涛声称自己是赶上不同时代不同好处的幸运儿。生于50年代末的他,十多岁开始青春叛逆性格不想读书的时候正赶上文革,书就不用读了。等80年代初兴起“读书热”的时候,他开了后门从部队回来考上了大学。当文凭最受用的时候,他拿到了一纸大专毕业证书,很快就因此被提了干,并评上了职称。于是在他最想当官的时候,年仅30岁的他当上了《园柳》杂志社总编、温州作协副主席、温州市青年作协主席。然后在下海春潮刚荡漾起第一波的时候,当杂志社老总得出经营之道的他又成为最早的下海干部。
