South Korea is no longer an “Asian dragon” According to the latest World Bank report, South Korea is no longer included in the “Asian Tigers” list, replacing it with Brunei. In 1992, the per capita GNP of South Korea was 6,749 U.S. dollars. Although it was higher than the 6,518 U.S. dollars in 1991, it was still half of that in Singapore and Hong Kong. The annual per capita GDP of Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Brunei, known as the New Fourth Dragon, exceeds US$10,000. Among them, Singapore has more than 15,000 US dollars and Hong Kong has between 16,000 and 18,000 US dollars. For this reason, South Korean economic experts and analysts feel that their country has been humiliated by their reputation and claim that South Korea is a “shameful dragon.” They said without hesitation: “This is the result of overheated economy four years ago.” The economic analysts recalled heavily: “Since the 1988 Olympics, things started to go wrong.” At that time, the government did not let the economy relax. Come down to have the opportunity to breathe, but to stimulate the economy through large-scale construction projects.
