This article describes a fully-automated and adaptive 9600/4800 bit / second data modem that performs well on 3002, C2, or C4 telephone channels. In the case of intersymbol interference, noise, carrier phase offset, phase jump, and other phase disturbances, the receiving device first “exercises” with a regular data signal (or pseudo-random number stream) and adjusts by channel . No special prefixes or other special signals are required to practice. The receiving device then continues to accurately adapt to the channel characteristics while receiving the rule data without causing any interruption of the data stream.
