我县东临黄海,西部多山,总面积二百一十六万亩,共有宜林山滩五十七万七千亩,其中海滩三万五千余亩。合作化以前,大部为荒砂白滩,风沙、盐碱得不到治理,每到春冬,风沙掩门户,海水潮进屋;农田被砂埋,作物遭灾害。沿海地区广大贫下中农,饱受砂碱之苦,柴草、用材非常缺乏。 一九五六年以来,在毛主席关于“绿化祖国”的伟大号召鼓午下,沿海地区广大干群开展了大规模的植树造林运动。经过十多年的艰苦努力,终于绿化了百里海滩,制服了风沙,保护了农田,出观一个林茂粮丰的新局面。
