春去夏来,时令的变化也给人们的心情带来了变化,在四季中人们更青睐仲夏的五月,白天热而不烈,早晚凉而不寒。《玉台新咏·近代吴歌》中云:“郁蒸仲暑月,长啸北湖边”。唐代的魏征在《九成宫醴泉碑铭序》中有这样的句子:“炎景流金,郁蒸之气”。刚刚吐过丝的春蝉在五月里“群声合唱”,鸣叫得极其声响,所以《豳风·七月》中“五月鸣蜩”又将五月称为“鸣蜩”。以及“蕤宾”、“小刑”、“皋月”、“仲夏”、“午月”等都表示出五月是一年中火热的开端,因此人们也习惯地把它称为“红五月”……
