中国孔庙主要有四类(1):一是家庙(包括孔子祖庙、本庙和政府认可批准,并传承有序的孔子嫡裔建立的家庙);二是国庙(包括历朝历代设在京城的孔庙和国子监);三是纪念性孔庙(纯属纪念性质);四是学庙(这类孔庙数量惊人,是各地府州县学等官方学校,历史上有1700座,是中国孔庙的主力军,有些书院也有孔庙,也归入学庙类)。平城即现在的山西大同,是我国北魏时期的国都。平城文庙是北魏的太学或国子监和孔庙,即国家级学府和孔庙。2015年10月7日,笔者考察并考证了中国第一座学庙(孔庙)——山西平城文庙的现状及其历史,展示了除曲阜孔庙外的我国第二座孔庙、第一座学庙的史实,在理论和实践两个方面奠定了平城文庙在中国孔庙发展史、中国教育史上的历史地位。
