Elie Wiesel, Germany’s leading thinker and peace activist in the second half of the twentieth century, 1986 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. A Jewish enclave called Sighet, born in the Carpathian Mountains in 1928. His writing is about memory of the Holocaust. Wiesel was awarded the Peace Prize for writing through his “universal censure of turning personal attention into violence, hatred and oppression”.
