People familiar with Shanghai are all aware of “1933” - this concrete building at No. 10 and No. 29 Shajing Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai has an extraordinary charm. Its beauty is not confined to the rugged atmosphere left behind by an industry. Escher’s maze-like spatial misalignment gives the building the power to absorb the heart. The vicissitudes of history have penetrated into every piece of concrete.
