On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. This major news disrupted a quiet Sunday afternoon. This put an end to the long-term attempt by the isolated forces in the United States to stay outside the war. Tokyo’s Royal Headquarters announced that Japan is fighting the United States and the United Kingdom. A few hours ago, 360 Japanese military aircraft carried out large-scale sneak attacks on the US Pacific Fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Japanese aircraft also attacked the United States base in the Philippines. On the evening of the same day, President Roosevelt called together all cabinet members, congressional leaders, and senior military officials. He had already dictated a statement that he was to read at the special meeting of the next day, when he would officially inform the Congress that the United States was in a state of war.
