Since the Sino-Indian border war in 1962, the relations between the United States and India have never been as close as they are and the security interests of both countries are the driving force behind this change. The cornerstone of the security interests of the United States and India is mainly to deal with the growing international terrorism and Islamic extremist groups, the most important of which is the protection of the Indian Ocean sea-line. Most of India’s and the United States rely on maritime transportation for crude oil and certain strategic materials. In order to safeguard their security interests and maintain stability in the Indian Ocean, the United States and India will have to strengthen their presence in the region. Therefore, the prospects for establishing a strong naval partnership between the United States and India become clear.
