Neurological and psychiatric factors are risk factors for ventricular arrhythmias and sudden death. Clinical experience suggests that stress is associated with angina, congestive heart failure and arrhythmia episodes, and that advanced neuronal activity is associated with sudden cardiac death. Animal experiments suggest that the autonomic nervous system plays a role in the occurrence of many arrhythmias. However, the relationship between these factors and arrhythmia has not yet been systematically elucidated. This article aims to investigate whether mental stress is an important factor in patients with arrhythmias. Methods: 19 patients, 17 males and 2 females, aged 18 to 67 years. Twelve patients were diagnosed with coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, history of myocardial infarction, or confirmed by coronary angiography. Two of them had coronary artery bypass surgery, but failed to control the recurrence of ventricular fibrillation. No significant cardiac catheterization and cardiac angiography were found in 4 patients Hemodynamic, myocardial or coronary abnormalities; another 3
