Around the 1960s, more than 50,000 abandoned babies from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai affected by natural disasters were escorted by local governments in batches, searching for shelter all the way to the north. These abandoned babies were collectively referred to as “Shanghai orphan”. In the 1980s, they gradually learned about their own life experience and started a difficult journey of seeking relatives. Their marriages were marvelous. Because of floods and other reasons, the end of 1959, Shanghai, Wuxi, Changzhou and other places are plunged into different levels of food shortage. The food distributed by families can no longer satisfy the living needs of all members. In desperation, many rural families shed tears to abandon young children into the cities. Dozens of orphanages in Shanghai, Wuxi and Changzhou have gathered more than 3,000 orphans.
