The newest member of the gas turbine family from Stewart & Stevenson International Ltd., the LM6000 is derived from the GE CF6-80C_2 jet aircraft engine, which represents the most advanced Gas turbine technology, used extensively on civil aircraft such as the Boeing 747, the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 and A300, and the Airbus A310. The LM6000 is a biaxial, cold-end-driven gas turbine that can be directly connected to a generator for 60-cycle applications. For 50-cycle applications, a reduction gear unit is required to reduce the speed to 3000 rpm. Due to the cold-end drive, the 50-cycle generator set has a total length of 20.9m.
