西德“黄鼠狼”步兵战车底盘性能良好,但是也存在很大缺陷,主要是缺少穿甲武器。对这一点,西德陆军机械化步兵部队提出了许多意见,指出该车武器应加以改进,以适应当前和未来战斗的需要。由于对现代化步兵战车的作用有不同的解释,所以对“黄鼠狠”步兵战车安装什么样的武器沒有统一的看法。为此陆军曾设想过许多改进方案。譬如在很久以前,陆军就曾考虑过在“黄鼠狠”步兵战车上装备“斯皮尔”无控火箭,並在三年前又考虑装备莱茵金属公司的、射程为1000米的“戟型”无控火箭。这两种武器都沒有达到予期的目的,于是上述两个计划都中断了。
