本期的主打与其说是杰恩·沃尔夫,倒不如说是火星。除了沃尔夫本人的力作《火星之盾》,还有关于爱情小寓言的《火星姐夫》,以及描写现代鲁宾逊孤岛的《火星,火星!》。开拓星际与外星文明题材一直就为科幻文学所瞩目,不过令人困惑的是,外星人为什么总是被描写得那么充满敌意?《彗星来自内部》是一篇相当漂亮的短篇。它的前半部分并不出彩,看着不过是《彗星撞地球》的文字缩编版;可后半部分笔锋一转,道出这样一个事实:所谓彗星并非彗星,而是外星入侵看的一块“试金石”——与摧毁人类的防御系统相比,更具毁灭性的也许是摧毁人类的心灵。
