Background The first epidemiological data on GBV-C / G hepatitis virus (HGV) infection showed that the prevalence of asymptomatic virus carriers in blood donors and populations at risk of blood borne viruses was quite high, However, using only viral RNA polymerase chain reaction, the results of this study underestimated the true infectivity of GBV-C / HGV. Considering both GBV-C / HGV RNA and anti-E2 (which reflects the recovery of the infection), this is necessary to correctly determine the prevalence of GBV-C / HGV. Study Design and Methods HIV positive or negative individuals from low-risk or high-risk individuals of blood-borne or sexually transmitted virus (blood donors, organ donors, unselected pregnant women, immunocompetent or immunocompromised multiple blood transfusions) Male homosexuals, intravenous drug addicts) collected from 1438 copies of both anti-E2 and GBV-
