It is well-known that many modes can be propagated simultaneously in multimode fiber, and the attenuation characteristics of each mode are different when propagating in fiber waveguide. In step multimode fiber, the higher-order mode attenuates more and the lower-order mode attenuates less, so the actually measured fiber attenuation is strongly related to the mode distribution propagating in the fiber. Especially high-quality multimode fiber, its attenuation characteristics are very sensitive to the dependence of the mode distribution.
