The author was invited to attend the Fifth International Conference on World Association of Esophageal Diseases, held in Kyoto, Japan in August 1992. The International Society of Esophageal Diseases (I.S.D.E) belongs to the International Society of Surgical (I.S.S) organizations. The meeting was jointly organized by a number of associations in the Japanese medical community. The chairman of the conference was Professor K. NabEYA, Second Surgery, Tokyo Xinglin University. More than 700 delegates from 46 countries and regions around the world, including 10 professors and associate professors from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
