Historically, the formation and development of the Latin American cultures were the by-product of capital globalization. Colonialism cut off the development process of the Indian civilization and put it into a new framework of cultures. In the present days, despite the inter-dependence between the U.S. and Latin America, the deep core of the Latin American cultures has not witnessed tremendous changes. The directions of the Latin American cultures are reflected in the following: 1) With the strengthened relationship of inter-dependence between Latin America and the U.S., Latin America is likely to borrow more elements from the American cultures and vice versa. 2) In the face of globalization, many factors might make it possible for Latin America to keep its cultural traditions and features. 3) Latin American people have not only the solid national consciousness and feelings, but also the national confidence and ability to stand on the world arena. 4) To diversify its overseas market and sources of capital and technology, Latin America is trying to increase cooperation with Europe. This closer relations between the two continents would help protect the Latin American cultures.
