The authors adopted a special deep breath-only ventilation protocol to demonstrate the possibility of evaluating six cardio-pulmonary parameters by measuring breath volume orally and exhaled oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations. The six cardiopulmonary parameters were pulmonary capillary blood flow, effective residual volume, equivalent lung volume, oxygen partial pressure P_ (o_2) and carbon dioxide partial pressure P_ (co_2) of mixed venous and pulmonary blood volume including capillaries. The relevant equations are derived from ventilation models alternating between alternating and continuous gas and the above six cardio-pulmonary parameters are calculated from the equations.
