随着世界战略格局的转变，２１世纪西太平洋海洋形势，将变得既尖锐复杂又扑朔迷离。人类对海洋的大规模工业化开采和利用，海洋将成为竞争中的重要领域。斗争的特点是争夺海洋权益和岛屿，这是未来西太平洋的热点。在这个问题上，现在有的国家采取霸权主义态度，来对待存在的争端和分歧，中国的海洋权益和岛屿主权受到了严重侵害。未来西太平洋的安全形势，需要有关国家共同作出努力。
