秉忠生于金元之际北方的邢州,于苏轼备受推崇的北方总体文学风气的影响下,刘秉忠的诗论,自然亦不免受到苏氏诗学的沾溉。刘秉忠于诗歌创作,亦以自然为宗,要求诗意须“圆”;言贵“辞达”。其外,于金元之际文论重视情实,以宗经致用为号召的情形下,刘秉忠的论诗之重天机自然,于同时有一定特色,对全面评价金元之际北方诗坛具有不可忽视的意义。
