自欧洲文艺复兴开始,饱含现实主义精神的艺术作品开始登上历史舞台。20世纪30年代现实主义“布道”至中国,以徐悲鸿为首的一大批留法艺术家在中国革天覆地的发展洪流中用现实主义“改革”艺术,使陈朽的中国艺术焕发出勃勃生机,成为当时文化革命阵地的有力武器,亦如《巴人汲水》《愚公移山》一样,涌现出了一批优秀的现实主义国画作品,为以歌咏“文人”情怀的中国画艺术开启了新的发展局面和艺术方向,直至今日,“现实主义”依然是国内大型画展的主流表现题材。“市井”一词可以看做是对现实主义浅近而又具象的一种表述。近年来,也成为定义一类中国画题材的专有名词,通常见于人物画范畴,其常常被与文人画相对而言之。当代市井题材中国画也成为国画艺术中的一个重要范畴,基于市井主题的特征和中国画艺术语言的特质,两者的结合使当下的国画艺术创作表现出一种中国艺术发展的时代意义和现实主义精神。它们一方面突破了自古国画艺术创作中作者抒喻己怀意、山水明志的文人意识传统,另一方面使艺术创作更加贴近生活和社会,更加具象和迅速的映射社会文化和时代发展,这类作品的艺术创作演变迅速,却又真实地反映着当下的社会文化和人民生活,是国画艺术未来发展的更为广阔的一片沃土。

On the other hand, he makes the artistic creation closer to life and society, and more specifically and quickly reflects the social culture and the development of the times. The artistic creation of the works has evolved rapidly, yet it truly reflects the current social culture and people’s life. It is a vast field of fertile ground for the future development of traditional Chinese painting.
