阳泉矿务局8~#局部可采煤层,属“复合顶板”煤层。由于煤层上伪顶较厚,随采随落,底板又软,(曾布置炮采工作面开采)因支柱钻底严重,加上伪顶塌落后高度过大,给顶板管理工作带来了很大的困难。在这种情况下,决定使用KX—280型支撑掩护式支架布置综采工作面进行试验性开采。为配合这次试验,进行了矿压观测。目的在于了解和掌握KX—280到支撑掩护式支架在8~#煤层工作面的矿压显现规律,寻求支架的临界工作阻力,了解支架的适应性能。
