袖珍龟背竹系天南星科龟背竹属多年生常绿藤本植物,是龟背竹的变异,为龟背竹的小型品种。茎小、叶小,但叶柄较长,可达15厘米,叶端为唇形,叶尖向一边倾斜,故又称斜叶龟背竹,叶革质、互生,具羽状深裂,叶面上沿主脉两侧天然生出大小不等的椭圆形孔,极象龟背,节茎绿色,状如竹,为名贵观叶植物,尤其适于布置小型居室。原产墨西哥、巴西等地的热带雨林中,适宜在温暖湿润环境里生长。茎为木质藤本,生有褐色气生根,可攀援在高大树木干枝上或沿地匍匐而生,利用气生根扎入土层表面或树皮中吸取养分和水分。在野生状态下茎长可达7～8米。
