徐迟是著名的报告文学作家、诗人,他的最著名的作品是《哥德巴赫猜想》。1996年12月12日深夜,他死于武汉一所大医院的高干病房。人们传说他是非正常死亡。情况是这样的:当护士来查房时,发现病房内的窗子洞开,并且不见徐迟老人,这才发现他已死在窗外的楼下。他的仪容很安详,身体的外部损伤不大,头部也很完整,只是面部有树枝的擦痕,想必是冬青树丛托起了他的上身的缘故。法医的结论:徐迟是自己从窗户摔到楼下去的,没有他杀的可能。但他是有意识的自杀还是无意中失足,或是梦游一类的病症导致这一惨剧?法医无法解答。
