瑶族主要分布在广西、湖南、云南、广东、江西、海南等省区的山区,是中国南方一个比较典型的山地民族。瑶族人自称“勉”、“金门”、“布努”、“拉珈”、“炳多优”等,因经济生活、居住地区和服饰的不同,又有“盘瑶”、“过山瑶”、“顶板瑶”、“白裤瑶”等30多种称谓。新中国成立后,统称为瑶族。
