The image quality and sensitivity of an ultrasound imaging system are directly affected by the noise figure, dynamic range and image resolution of the receiver. The receiver noise figure determines the minimum signal level (such as ultrasound echo) that the imaging system can detect. Dynamic range is a measure of the system’s ability to detect important weak signals under high-intensity, incoherent signals. The wider dynamic range is equally critical for second harmonic imaging systems where high-intensity signals at fundamental imaging frequencies can interfere
