Japan’s national media basically concentrated in the hands of the top five news groups. The five major news groups are “Yomiuri Shimbun” Group, “Asahi Shimbun” Group, “Daily News” Group, “Nihon Keizai Shimbun” Group, and “Sankei Shimbun” Group. Japan’s five major private television stations and radio stations were also founded or controlled by the Big News Group. In Japan, in addition to the semi-official NHK, local television and radio stations are largely affiliated or closely related to the five major media outlets.
