云南地处云贵高原的西部,山河纵横,雨量丰沛,河流落差集中,境内蕴藏着丰富的水能资源。全省水能理论储量10364万kW,年发电量9078.86亿kW·h,占全国的15.3％,仅次于西藏和四川居全国第三位;可能开发的装机容量为7116.79万kW,年发电量3944.53亿kW·h,居全国第二位。云南是中国水能资源开发最早的省份,1912年4月在昆明市郊螳螂川的石龙坝建成我国第一座装机为480kW的水电站。到解放时,全省水电装机容量仅有5000kW。

The province’s theoretical reserves of hydropower 103.64 million kW, the annual generating capacity of 907.886 billion kW · h, accounting for 15.3% of the country, second only to Tibet and Sichuan ranks third in the country; possible installed capacity of 71,167,900 kW, annual power generation capacity 394.453 billion kW · h, ranking second in the country. Yunnan Province is the earliest province to develop hydropower resources in China. In April 1912, the first hydropower station with a installed capacity of 480kW was built in Shilongba, Mantisichuan, Kunming. When liberated, the province’s hydropower installed capacity of only 5000kW.
