不久的将来,5000吨级的重载货物列车将在我国主要干线上运行。从此,我国货物列车牵引重量将跃上一个新台阶。重载列车的开行,将使这些干线的输送能力提高25%以上。这是我国铁路运输组织的一次飞跃。为了实现这一飞跃,1992年8月5~14日,在铁道部领导的指导下,由济南、上海、北京、郑州铁路局先后在京沪线济南西—徐州北间用 ND_5双机,在徐州北—南京东间用 DF_4双机和 DF_(10)单机,在石家庄南—郑州北间用 BJ型双机,在郑州北—广水间用 SS_4单机和 SS_4
