Tsg101 is a tumor-sensitive gene discovered in recent years. Functional knock-out of this gene in mouse fibroblasts results in the transformation of cells into nude mice metastatic tumors. This effect can be reversed by the recovery of tsg101 function, suggesting that tsg101 inhibits the malignant growth of cells. The authors used PCR, in situ hybridization and other methods to prove that the human TSG101 gene is located in the 1-5 subbands (11p15.1-p15.2) of the 1st and 5th bands of the short arm of chromosome 11.
