In a considerable number of Mesozoic-Cenozoic basins in western China, the development of brackish-brackish water and the development of aquatic media determine the formation, development and distribution of carbonate reservoirs in these basins. Therefore, the restoration of ancient water media in this kind of lake basin has very important practical significance. Taking the Er'er depression in Yandong Basin as an example, the paleoclimate conditions in the Mesozoic lacustrine basin were comprehensively analyzed by means of stable isotopes, trace metal elements and biomarker compounds. According to characteristics of relative salinity and lithology of Paleoarthrocells in Mesozoic strata, the ancient lakes are divided into two types: normal lakes and salty lakes. Through the comprehensive analysis of various methods, we can see that the Mesozoic sedimentary aquifer medium in the south and north of Ying'er Depression is relatively consistent, which is basically the condition of brackish water to semi-salty water medium, . The following sediment aquifers in the Baiyou Tongzhong Formation have the highest salinity, and this layer is also the most developed carbonate rock layer, which is a favorable target for carbonate reservoir exploration.
