沈阳军区女篮“文革”前默默无闻,直到1972年五项球类运动会时才小有名气,获女篮赛第十名,1977年获甲级队联赛第三名。1982年获甲级第十四名,降入乙级队。1984年卷土重来,获甲级队第七名,此后稳定在前六名之内,从1985至1991年顺序获第六、五、三、四、一、二名,五年来都保持在顶峰之上,1992和1994年联赛又夺第一。80年代以来有名手李树莹、赵薇、李冬梅、李昕、刘静、王红、展淑萍、孙永前等入选国家队,展淑萍、李昕、李冬梅因获奥运会亚军而被批准为国际级运动健将。
