Surgery or trauma can lead to imbalances in the body’s amino acid pool, with a severe negative nitrogen balance following the massive breakdown of muscle proteins. In order to investigate the effect of surgical and exogenous amino acids on plasma free amino acid profiles, we prospectively performed a series of patients undergoing radical gastrectomy.
