This paper introduces the application of cross flow CO2 laser to the laser fusion strengthening of KA series rotor journals. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze the microstructure of the hardened layer and the transition layer. The cross-section hardness of the hardened layer and the transition layer was measured with a microhardness tester. The wear resistance of the samples with different scanning pitches was tested by a friction and wear testing machine. Under the process parameters, the sample with a scanning pitch of 12mm is relatively wear-resistant
